1. Relevance of the topic to the CTE field:
This presentation directly supports the Arts, A/V Technology & Communications CTE cluster by demonstrating how schools can implement fully operational broadcast media programs that meet state CTE standards. It covers curriculum design, industry-relevant equipment, and workforce readiness strategies aligned with Media Tech 1–4 pathways. The integration of real-world broadcasting tools and platforms prepares students for careers in journalism, digital media, film, and OTT broadcasting, making it highly relevant to the evolving demands of CTE.
2. Value to participants:
Participants will gain practical insight into launching or enhancing a CTE broadcast media program that goes far beyond the classroom. NPSBN helps transform CTE from a single course into a campus-wide media ecosystem—equipping schools to operate as fully functioning production studios that serve the entire school and surrounding community. Through the integration of professional-grade equipment, project-based curriculum, and student-led content creation, schools become active media centers that produce campus news, live events, documentaries, and local interviews. This holistic model empowers students with real-world experience while positioning the CTE program as a hub for communication, storytelling, and community engagement. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to elevate their CTE offerings into dynamic, high-visibility programs that drive both student success and schoolwide transformation.
3. Presenter knowledge and experience:
Darrell James is the founder of the National Public School Broadcast Network (NPSBN) and an industry professional with over 20 years of experience in media, broadcasting, and CTE program development. He has designed and implemented district-wide media programs, built broadcast studios, developed learning platforms, and trained CTE instructors nationwide. His expertise bridges education and industry, equipping schools with both the technology and pedagogical models to empower the next generation of media professionals.
