About me
Shannon Flowers, Ph.D., serves as the Business Engagement Coordinator for the Darlington County School District, where she works to bridge the gap between education and the business community. With extensive experience in K-12 education and a background in higher education, Shannon is dedicated to creating impactful, work-based learning opportunities for students. Her efforts focus on strengthening the local workforce and economy through initiatives such as the Key to Career Internship Program, ASCEND, and Career Time Tuesday, as well as through strategic relationship-building with industry leaders.
In her role, Shannon collaborates closely with community and business partners, fostering meaningful connections between local organizations and Darlington County Schools. Her work has made a lasting impact, equipping students with the skills and experiences they need to succeed while supporting regional economic growth.
Shannon holds a Bachelor of Arts from Coker University, a Master of Science from the University of Cincinnati, and a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Charter University in Southampton, England. She is actively engaged in her community, serving on the First Steps Parents as Teachers Board, the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce Board, the Pee Dee RECAB Advisory Board, and is a member of the Women's League of Hartsville. Additionally, she contributes to the Darlington County Progress Board’s workforce development subcommittee in a non-voting capacity, aligning her work with broader economic and educational initiatives.
An award-winning educator, avid reader, and proud novice Swiftie, Shannon is passionate about encouraging others and celebrating their successes. She and her husband, Hartsville Fire Chief Ricky Flowers, have called Hartsville home for the past 19 years. Together, they have raised two adult children and now joyfully parent their six-year-old son, a role she considers her greatest fulfillment.
